They’re graceful, colorful, lend themselves to wonderfully simple compositions. Flowers are like butterflies, except you don’t have to chase them. I long ago realized I lack the patience and tolerance for discomfort that macro photography demands. So my flowers are mostly presented as portrait-scale beauty shots. I often add a texture and some touches to lend a painterly quality—both a respite from the journalistic tendencies that otherwise dominate my photography.
